The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 故事讲得很完整，虽然很多地方很稚嫩，但是感染力十足。通过科技穿越时空。
镜头好美，演员也好细腻，行云流水毫无痕迹。

尽管那个年代宣传用途的电影说教意味从来都比较重并没有什么意料之外的东西，但这个4K修复加上色的质量还是值得去电影院感受一下。
以为自己搞错了，结果真的是老电影，为老艺术家们打call
大银幕上的电流声，是老电影的Icon吧，牺牲就是福报的宣传片，那个年代没有私人情感，只有国与家。
第一次完整地观赏了本片，还是彩色修复版的，只想说一句，那时候的艺术家真的很了不起！
假期最后一天为适应上班看个九点钟的包场老电影，孙道临帅气。

最后一分钟“营救”电台版，除了节奏现在感受太慢，情感烘托还是很浓的。
2021年10月10日，一家三口重温经典，不同的是，这次看的事彩色修复版。小时后看的黑白电影，当时年纪太小了，很多情节有些模糊了，趁这次重映再次观看，深感今日盛世得来如此不易，吾辈当珍惜，吾辈当自强。
孙道临的李侠那是经典，小时候的最爱之一。那时候人物都是高大上的，没办法！
李侠，真的是非常温柔而又强大的人啊。他当然也是“侠”。
跑老远找到一家艺术院线看，彩色修复观感极佳。《潜伏》等谍战经典都能看到这部的影子，鼻祖。“同志们，永别了。我想念你们。”
